Declining volatility, a macroevolutionary property of disparate systems: from fossils, to stocks, to the stars
In his talk, Dr. Lieberman will discuss how certain aspects of the history of life, in particular, the evolution and extinction of species, match the behavior of stocks in the stock market and stars in the universe. Part and parcel with his discussion, he will also consider various issues such as “to what extent is evolution predictable?,” and “why did trilobites, once the dominant form of animal life, go extinct?.”
