STEAM Academy Preschool
Part-Time On-Call Substitute Teacher
The STEAM Academy is seeking a motivated professional with a passion for early education to join our team as a Part-Time On-Call Teacher. Nestled within the vibrant and inspiring setting of the Museum at Prairiefire, our preschool offers a unique educational experience that combines the wonders of Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math with early childhood education. Job Summary:
You will fill in for teachers as needed by assisting with activities and learning exercises for preschoolers, ensuring their safety, creativity, and involvement in various activities. Collaborate with the lead teachers to complete daily plans based on our STEAM-focused curriculum that meet the Kansas Department of Education Standards. Hours could vary from 730am-5pm depending on which teachers are out/schedules needing coverage.
Specific Duties of the Job:
● Support in all classroom activities, from housekeeping and meal service to completing educational activities.
● Engage children in small-group activities, contributing to large-group sessions with dynamic and appropriate interactions.
● Take on classroom responsibilities independently as needed.
● Assist with cleaning and organization of the classroom.
Education and Experience
Required:
● High School diploma or equivalent required.
● First Aid and CPR certification (or willingness to complete).
● Ability to pass a name-based and fingerprint background check, TB test, and health assessment.
Preferred:
● Preschool CDA credential, Associate Degree, or higher in Early Childhood Education preferred.
● 6 Months’ or more teaching experience in any licensed facility with students ages 2.5-6
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
● Ability to work with a variety of co-workers in a positive and professional way.
● Genuine warmth, concern for children, and an understanding of their developmental needs.
● Respect for children’s ideas and individual differences.
● Ability to implement teaching (new) strategies and manage classroom activities effectively.
● Capability to handle emergencies and adapt to changes smoothly.

Guest Experience
This position consists of:
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Greeting and checking-in guests at our Welcome Desk
Selling tickets, memberships, postcards, and other merchandise
Opening and closing the cash drawer and Great Hall technology
Answering the phone
Going over the Visitor Guides with guests
Answering guests questions
Facilitating education in our Discovery Room
Opening and closing the Discovery Room
Feeding the animals
Greeting guests and answering questions
Cleaning and resetting the Discovery Room as needed
Facilitating Virtual Reality
Setting up and running the virtual reality system for guests
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES IF NEEDED
Facilitate Birthday Parties
Be the point of contact for the birthday party guests while in the building
Direct birthday party guests to the birthday party location
Facilitate the Discovery Room for the birthday party
Facilitate Programming
Facilitate Field Trips
QUALIFICATIONS
High school diploma, or currently enrolled in high school and at least 16 year old
