Generative AI is rapidly becoming part of how young people learn, create, communicate, and find information. This presentation gives parents, caregivers, and other trusted adults a practical, nontechnical framework for helping kids use these tools safely and responsibly. Topics include understanding what generative AI can and cannot do, recognizing inaccurate or manipulated content, protecting personal information, setting age-appropriate expectations, and addressing questions of academic integrity and responsible creation. Rather than relying solely on restrictions, attendees will learn how ongoing conversations, shared exploration, and clear family guardrails can help young people become thoughtful and resilient users of AI.

Chris Watson is an information security leader with Choice Solutions, college educator, Army veteran, and community volunteer with experience spanning cybersecurity, technology strategy, and workforce development. As Information Security Manager at Choice Solutions, he helps organizations understand risk, strengthen their security programs, and adopt emerging technologies responsibly. He also teaches college courses in cybersecurity, cloud computing, and artificial intelligence.
A CISSP-certified professional, Chris holds a master’s degree in Telecommunications Systems Management and maintains several technical and cybersecurity certifications. He has also volunteered his professional expertise to large nonprofit organizations, advising on technology, security, and organizational challenges.
For nearly 20 years, Chris has worked with youth programs as an educator, mentor, and volunteer. Across each of these roles, he focuses on making complex technology understandable, helping people ask better questions, and ensuring that innovation remains grounded in security, responsibility, and human needs.
